When discussing stress and anxiety it can be very reassuring to realise that we are not alone, we are not the only ones being stressed out by the ups and downs of life.

It can be useful to know that having something/someone to stress about is in fact a  blessing – well we wouldn’t stress about them if we didn’t care for them, would we?

We stress about things, people, events which are important to us and it is possible tolearn to allow those feelings to melt away by:

  1. Just acknowledging the importance of these things, people and events in our lives,
  2. Being thankful/grateful for the presence of these things, people and events in our lives can often be enough to put them into perspective,
  3. To acknowledge that this is something that is important to me and to then ask some questions:
  • What is this anxiety about?
  • What do I need to do?
  • Is it within my sphere of control to do anything?

Then to break down the steps required to deal with the matter ….for example:

  1. Look for the plane tickets and put them in my wallet or handbag, to keep them safe.  But if they cannot be found then…
  2. Get hold of copies.
  3. If that is not possible then.
  4. Reschedule the flight and the meeting.

And if it is out of our sphere of influence or control then to have the wisdom to know when to let go?  To realise when we cannot do anything about an event then what is the worst thing that can happen? Has it happened before?  Did I survived that occasion? Then  I will again, won’t I?

So in our example if it is too late to get tickets or reschedule the meeting then perhaps the meeting will proceed without us and the consequences of that could be endlessly favourable or negative.

Learning to only look for the positive consequences of all events is something that you can learn too… with Choosing to Change.

On those occasions when we find ourselves overwhelmed with stress and anxiety to the extent that we cannot consciously manage to acknowledge the feelings, or break down the issue into manageable chunks then this is where Cognitive Hynotherapy and NLP Techniques can be very helpful to help us overcome the immediate feelings of stress and anxiety so that we can have more choices about how to behave.  So call or email me to discuss how I can help you with this issue.
